Good morning, Lovelies! Let's talk paint. Paint is one of THE most cost effective ways to change up a space. Color can transform a room like no other design element can. Once that perfect color has been selected, which finish do you choose? The paint gurus at Pratt and Lambert Paints have broken it down in to a simple formula.

LAMP LIGHTING - DESIGNER SECRETS

As functional beings, you'd never think the solution to a successful event is to turn the lights ...OFF!       (Wait, what??)

A little over-head light is fine, but trust us on this one... if you have high-intensity florescent lights beaming down from your ceilings, party time is the perfect time to give them a rest!

(Now for the designer secret) ---->There's nothing more flattering on a guest than lamplight!!

With that said, please enjoy some of my favorite lamps.

You've heard the phrase "three's a crowd."

...And while it might seem like something to avoid in social interactions, it's actually the PERFECT RECIPE when it comes to accessorizing a space. You see, when you have one or two of something, it better be interesting to stand its ground. BUT, when you have THREE or more of something, it automatically qualifies as a COLLECTION! This is one of the places where design magic comes from.

RUBY SNAP - DESIGNER TRIBUTE

...Just a little tribute to our favorite February visitor! For one month a year, Ruby Snap welcomes Scarlett, the Red Velvet Cookie with CREAM CHEESE ICING!! Oooh, la, la. She is mighty irresistible. This means, our weekdays frequently involve a 2:00 cookie run. 

If you don't live near Salt Lake City, they also sell frozen cookie dough. It's well worth it!

GREEN CHRISTMAS

We hope you have all been enjoying a lovely holiday! While our old brick house hunkered down into over a FOOT of snow(!), we were off gallivanting in sunny Arizona!

When pine trees aren't an option, the next best thing is to decorate your cactus!! LOVE!

THIS GUY is always such a hit with the kiddos ...and Little Miss Adrenaline had to try everything he did. She'll be giving her parents a run for their money once the boys start lining up. :)

She just kept hollering for him to go faster!

Thank heavens we flew that skateboard over with us! It was the life of the party.

What a stunning display this neighborhood put on for the world! The entire street was lined, both sides with luminaries. Absolutely charming!

Saying goodbye was hard, knowing we'd have to pull on our galoshes just to get in our own front door! Thanks for the show Arizona!!

FORM MEETS FUNCTION

We'd like to introduce you to a new series on our blog called "Form Meets Function!"

You can be sure to find things here that are not only beautiful, but also do a good job, doing their job. (...and vice versa) ;)

This handy gem is intriguing in its form as a chair, yet makes the perfect modern artwork for your dining room wall... ...when guests are not using it ;)

When designing a space, we always try to think about how things are going to function for the owners. We like the idea of having extra seating without having to commit a lot of square footage to chairs that will only be used occasionally.



When we're talking design[!] one of the biggest topics that comes up besides how something works & looks, is how it affects its environment. There's been a big movement lately to go away from the (although stunning)  power-sucking light bulbs... to newer, more efficient kinds of lighting. UNFORTUNATELY, most of them are not-so-pretty to look at. 

That's why we were STOKED when we stumbled upon THIS 
[CFL Bulb!]

It is a TOTAL throwback to our favorite bulbs, but also uses much less energy. It does a better job doing its job, and looks great doing it!

Now. Let's get down to business. It's winter. It's cold. Some of us need HOT COCOA. BUT... what about the cookies that go with?? I know I tend to skip out on them sometimes, because of the hassle of: the extra plate, crumbs... 

Well, never fear because we have discovered

This guy is great because on top of containing crumbs, it also rations the number of cookies I'm tempted to sneak away with! :)

This is one of my favorites in Form Meets Function, because it is great as a stand-alone piece, yet it is EVEN COOLER when it's doing its job. I know this one is definitely on my wish list!
